Extension Of Nurses’ Home

Hospital Board To Go Ahead With Project

‘The Bay of Plenty Hospital Board at its monthly meeting yesterday decided, after considerable discussion, to proceed with the calling of tenders for the construction of the proposed new extensions to the Nurses’ Home after the ratification of a few more alterations to the original plan by the Ministry of Health. The extension will in crease the staff housing capacity of the Hospital by 2 4 bedrooms. It will also give an additional sitting room to the senior staff.

Mr T. P. Haughey, Architect to the -Board, in his outline of the plan of the proposed new block said that the original plan drawn by Mr E. T. Natusch, the former architect, was considered satisfactory with, a few minor alterations. The stairway to the top floor he. said, would be better shifted from its present position to that of the bedroom adjoining it so that in the future when more additions were made in the form of a new wing, the bedroom could be removed to form a passage way through the building to the new wing. He also suggested that the linen and the'box-room .now situated where two sunny bedrooms could be, should'be shifted to two bedrooms on the shady south side of the present building. These alterations together with a few construction material improvements were agreed upon by the Board.

Footwear For Nurses Arising out of the Matron’s monthly report, the question of shoes and stockings for the nurses was fully discussed and it was decided' that the hospital authorities should procure a supply of nurses’ shoes and stockings and issue them in place of the old scheme whereby nurses brought their own shoes and stockings from the £6 allowance granted each year for that purpose.

The request to the Board for the provision of car sheds for the staff’s cars was deferred to be considered by the Works Committee at its next -meeting.
