Dairy Industry Legislation

Because many of the articles of association under which co-opera-tive dairy companies work were drawn up many years ago, when the industry was in its infancy, they have proved unsuited for modern conditions. The fact that a special committee had been set up by the Minister of Agriculture to invesigate the difficulties created was mentioned by he chairman of the Dairy Board, Mr W. E. Hale, at the Bay of Plenty Ward Conference of the Board at Whakatane. Mr Hale emphasised the importance of dairy companies co-operating with the committee which was not a Government committee, but one for which the industry had been pressing for some time. What was sought was the fullest possible information ' about the difficulties of dairy companies in connection with “dry” shareholders, and similar problems, and the information given would be treated confidentially.
