Whakatane Electrician’s Institute Meeting: Report From Conference Delegate

The advisability of carrying on with branch reports to the Electrical Journal because of the poor response given was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Whakatane branch of the Electricians held last week. It was eventually decided to forward a letter to the publishing committee of the institute in Auckland regarding the matter. Mr Ditchfield gave a report of the meeting at which Mr McQueen, the New Zealand Commissioner of Apprenticeship, gave a talk on the new apprenticeship legislation to representatives of the motor, enginering and electrical trades. The two-day trip to Waikaremoana which had been planned for April 24 by the Whakatane branch was called off because of the very bad weather prevailing at the time. Mr Hoskins, one of the branch delegates to the Dunedin conference, gave his report on his impressions of the conference at work. He had been greatly impressed by the goodwill and hospitality given by the Dunedin branch. The secretary, Mr Drube, informed members that the next meeting night would be a question and answers evening. He hoped that members would give it full support.
