Awakeri Decides To Form Parent-Teacher Assn.

Over fifty parents attended a meeting at the Awakeri School last week and decided to form a ParentTeacher Association. Mr I. B. Hubbard, Headmaster of the Whakatane District High School, Mrs A. F. Barwell, secretary of the Whakatane Parent-Teacher Association, Miss M. E. Lawes and Mr J. Slipper of Whakatane, attended to assist with their advice.

The head teacher, Mr E. G. Anderson, welcomed the visitors and after outlining the purpose of the meeting, called on Mr Hubbard to address the meeting on the aims of parent-teacher associations. Mr Hubbard then gave a very lucid summary of his long experience of similar bodies, after which a full discussion followed, culminating in a unanimous decision to form a branch of the parent-teacher movement at Awakeri.

A spirited election resulted: President, Mr W. G. Bunyan; vice-pre-sident, Mrs H. N. Jensen; Mesdames C. Butler, J. Fletcher, C. I. Cooper, and Messrs H. Webby and D. Wilson.

Messrs Bunyan and Anderson expressed the thanks of the district to the Whakatane visitors and Mrs E. C. Haultain, assisted by a band of helpers dispensed supper.
