Otakiri Women’s Institute

The April meeting of the Otakiri W.I. was held at the Otakiri Hall, Mrs Peck presiding over . a large gathering. Business included final arrangement for the May meeting, Otakiri’s Birthday Party. A collection was taken for CORSO and 'the money for a spinning wheel has been forwarded to Wellington. A donation for headquarters building fund is to be sent as usual. The arts and crafts circle is to hold its meetings at members’ homes this year so that some of the younger members can be present, as night meetings suit the majority. A short piece of favourite poem was read by several members. Competitions:— Custard tart: Mrs A. Smith 1, Mrs Peck 2, Mrs F. Missen 3. Soft toy: Mrs Peck 1, Mrs F. Mayo 2, Miss J. Murray 3. Jar jelly: Mrs F. Mayo 1, Mrs Dunning 2, Mrs Peck 3. ~ Single flower: Mrs Lord 1, Mrs Missen 2, Mrs Murray 3. Double flower:- Mrs Winters 1, Mrs Missen 2, Mrs Gibson 3. Vegetable: Mrs Cobden 1, Mrs Missen 2, Mrs Lord 3.

Matata Women’s Institute

The monthly meeting of the Matata Women’s Institute was held in the Presbyterian Hall last Wednesday, Mrs R. Withy presiding over a good attendance. One new member was enrolled. Mrs Parkinson gave a report on the recent Council meeting to which she was a delegate. Mrs Stewart, of Whakatane, gave a very interesting talk on her A.C.W.W. trip to Holland. Competition results:— Best flower: Mrs Warbrick 1, Mrs M. Lees 2, Mrs Parkinson 3. Bowl of chrysanthemums: Mrs Miller 1, Mrs Smith 2. Best vegetable: Mrs McGill and Mrs Conn, equal, 1. Sausage, rolls: Mrs Smith 1, Mrs Miller 2. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Conn and Mrs Reichardt.
