Three Teams Equal At Head Of Senior Rugby: United Junior Leaders
United, Paroa and Taneatua are now running neck-and-neck at the- head of the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union’s 1948 ’ senior competition, with United ' juniors the only 4-point team in the lower grade. This week’s fireworks should be provided by Paroa and Taneatua seniors at the Whakatane Domain. Points position so far is:— Senior: United, Paroa, Taneatua, 4 points each; Waimana, Wairaka 2 points each; Poroporo and P.W.D. nil. Junior: United, 4 points; Poroporo, Waimana, Wairaka, Paroa 2 each; Taneatua nil.

To facilitate travelling the Poroporo seniors and the Wairaka juniors will travel together to Taneatua. Galatea Rugby Season . Starts Well: Eight Clubs
At the annual meeting of the Galatea Rugby Sub-Union recently, it was found.' that there were eight senior teams nominated for the competition, Waiohau, Galatea, Murupara, Te Whaiti, Minginui, Ruatahuna, Wairapukao and Kaingaroa, as well as three junior teams. The standard of Rugby in the district is considered to be on the upgrade, and some excellent games are expected during the season. The first three games of the competition have been played and Galatea is in the lead for the Grant Memorial Cup. Mr G. Stunel, was elected president, Mr'F. Gibbs secretary, and Mr S. White sole-selector.
