Notes On The Conference

Mr W. E.: Hale, chairman of the N.Z. Dairy Board, discussing the fertiliser shortage: Due' to the recent “go slow” and inferior labour at the works, there is a lag in production. It would take a whole year’s work at normal capacity to fill the allocations, without catching up the leeway. •’ There is a drastic shortage everywhere. He seemed surprised that fertiliser was getting to Whakatane at all. Some places it wasn’t.

Mr A. J. Murdoch, M.P., chairman of the conference: We should follow up the question of petrol for dairy company directors to attend meetings. He asked for factual information to help, to make a case to submit to the Controller. Mr Murdoch also said the Dairy Board approached the Minister of Labour, Mr McLagan, to ask that immigrants should be brought here to relieve the labour shortage in cheese factories.
