Waimana-Nukuhou W.I. Gardening Circle
The April meeting was held at Mrs C. Hampton’s home; Mrs M. King presiding in the absence of Mrs C. Wylde. The attendance was good/ and the entries for the competitions excellent.
Mrs A. Macdonald gave an interesting reading on the use of sulphur for asters, stocks and Iceland poppies. Before planting, put the roots in sulphur, and it helps to check mildew.
A competition arranged by Mrs Hampton, naming pictures of flowers cut from a catalogue, was won by Mrs M. King. Mrs G. Mitchell acted as judge for the day’s competitions; the results were:— Tumbler of flowers: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Macdonald 2, Mrs C. Hampton 3. Best flower: Mrs C. Hampton 1, Mrs M. King 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs C. Hampton 2, Mrs Whiteman 3. After g delicious afternoon tea had been served by Mrs T. King and Mrs Hewitt, members viewed the well-kept garden, where a nice display of dahlias was growing. At the close of the meeting, Mrs King thanked Mrs Hampton for the use of her home, also the hostesses and judges.
