Crippled Children’s Society Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Whakatane Sub-Centre of the New Zealand Crippled Children’s Society was held on Thursday evening in the Borough Chambers. There was a very poor attendance of -the public, a matter on which the president, Dr. E. T. Dawson, commented. The president’s report together with that of the Travelling Supervosir, Miss Terry, showed much progress has been made in the Society’s work. Miss Terry reported 13 new cases registered, making a total of 55 cases for her territory. She considers there are many more to be found eventually.
The Society’s financial efforts for the year ended March 31 showed a very substantial increase on last year. A total of £2ll was collected, nearly doubling the previous year’s efforts.
A splendid donation of £25 was made by the Young New Zealanders Club, while amounts collected from the schools were very gratifying. During the year the Society lost the services of Rev. H. M. Bell and Mr R. Notley, both of whom left the district.
Dr. Dawson was again elected present with Miss A. J. North as secretary, and Mr J. B. Slipper as treasurer. Miss North recently visited Auckland during the visit of Dr. Earl Carlson, noted American Spastic Specialist, and she was much impressed with his work and advice to parents and patients at the Wilson Home for Crippled Children. The public are to-be asked to notify the Society of any .crippled children needing assistance, either medical or vocational.
