Kingsford-Smith Cup Presented
High Honour For Whakatane A.T.C. Unit
With all the snap and precision of a well-trained unit, the Whakatane Number 35 Squadron of the Air Training Corps made an impressive display as they marched on to the showgrounds at the Gkmkhana on Saturday to receive the Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith Cup that is presented annually to the most efficient unit in the Northern Wing of the Corps. Squadron-Leader Murray, Officer Commanding the Northern Wing, made the presentation. i Led by Flight-Lieutenant R. Signal, D.F.C., Officer commanding the Squadron, the parade was played on to the field by the Whakatane Caledonian Pipe Band. In front of the secretary’s office on the grounds Squadron-Leader Murray congratulated the unit on its . outstanding performance in winning the cup which he said was very strongly competed for by all the units in the Wing. Success was due partly to the instructor, Corporal P. Brodie, but largely to the keen way in which the boys had striven to attain the title of the most efficient Squadron in the Wing, the speaker concluded. He then handed over the cup to Flying-Officer S. Whitworth who in turn handed it over to the new officer commanding, Flight-Lieuten-ant Signal. The parade then marched off the ground and dismissed. .
