Second Annual Report On Whakatane Parent-Teacher Association Activities
In its .second year of existence, the Whak&tane Branch of the Par-ent-Teacher Association covered a wide field of activities. The sum of £164 was raised. A, special meeting was called early in the year to discuss means of raising the necessary funds for h film projector for. the school, and it was decided to run an intensive campaign for three weeks. At this meeting Mrs H. D. Wilson made a generous offer to advance the full sum required, so’'that the projector might be bought immediately. A further purchase for, the school later in the year 'was a rotary duplicator. The Association also supported an appeal' to the Borough Council for the inauguration of the Country Library Service in Whakatane, and while this was not successful, the matter was not lost sight of, and is to be brought forward again. In August the Association drew up and circulated a petition to the Auckland Education Board, requesting assistance in the provision of accommodation for school teachers. This petition carried approximately 200 signatures. For the second there was a guest speaker, Mr Francis, who spoke on the Life Cycle of the RainbowTrout, while the third was an Art Exhibition by Mr Dreghorn, illustrating his lecture on The Interpretation of Local Scenery.
