Recent Manawahe Sports Meeting Great Success
Recently, a very successful sports meeting .was held at Manawahe. Good entries were received’for all events which included 10, 12 and 14 inch standing chops, novelty horse events and athletic events for children and adults. Competitions in chain stepping and pitching the sheaf also attracted good entries, ». Women of the district contributed greatly to the success of the day by taking charge of the luncheon arrangements and the stalls in the hall. In the evening a well-attend-ed dance in the hall* fittingly rounded off a -most enjoyable day. The committee was particularly pleased to notice the number of visitors from surrounding districts, whose attendance and participation helped towards the success of the function. In accordance with a decision
reached at' the inaugural meeting, the nett profits of the day were divided into two parts. One half is being used to establish a fund to assist in the promotion of future sports meetings iri the district and the other half has been divided, into three equal portions, one each for the local branch of the Wdmen ? s Institute and the local School Funds, and the third portion is being used to despatch eleven food parcels to addresses in Britairi, supplied by residents of the Manawahe district whose names have been drawn in a ballot. ’ ? ■
