New Whakatane Committee Includes Two Women

Following are the nine successful candidates at the Whakatane school committee election: Mesdames J. D. Dallas and M. S. Wilson, Messrs F. G. Cutler, TeH. Fergusson, J. H. Duthie, K. E. Francis, L. D. Lovelock, E. H. Morice and Dr. A. W. Fletcher Cole. Mr Lovelock was elected chairman and Mr Duthie secretary. Approximately 40 householders attended the meeting.

Awakeri

Of 12 nominees for the Awakeri School Committee, the following seven were elected:— Mrs K. Knight and Messrs D. T. Allen, R. E. Burr, E; C. Haultain, S. A. Mahy, C. L. Roberts and J. C. White. Mr Haultain was elected chairman and Mr Mahy secretary. Forty-four householders attended the meeting, which decided to press for an intermediate school on the Rangitaiki Plains, to form a combined school committee and a Par-ent-Teacher Association, and to build a block of four flats to accommodate teachers. The headmaster, Mr Anderson, was complimented on the year’s work.

Taneatua

The following school committee was elected by the Taneatua householders: Chairman, Mr R. McGougan; secretary-treasurer, Mr M. Ewart;. executive, Messrs A. L. Richardson, W. Rixon, T. Barr, J. W. Goodhew and N. Reid.

Edgecumke

Edgecumbe householders elected the following school committee: Chairman, Mr R. Withy; secretary, Mr A. D. Gibson; treasurer, Mr H. Woollett; executive, Messrs J. Vickery, H. W. Ward, C.. Peters and S. Learning.
