BAY OF PLENTY BEACON Published Tuesdays and Fridays. TUESDAY, APRIL 13, 1948 Young Members Entertain Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute’s March Meeting

The Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute monthly meeting was held last Wednesday afternoon in the Waimana Hall. Two new members were welcomed, Miss Nol'a Rust and Miss> Dora Wardlaw.

In general business the remits to be brought forward at the Dominion Conference in Wellington were discussed. Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Stevenson were elected delegates to the annual Federation Council meeting to be held at Whakatane on Friday this week.

At this juncture, Mrs Looney, on behalf of members, presented Mrs M. King with a lovely floral bouquet, in appreciation of her help to the Institute in the past year. Mrs King thanked Mrs Looney and all for the kind thought and the beautiful flowers.

Mrs Wylde demonstrated the wiring and making of shoulder sprays. After the address the young members took over and presented the entertainment. A competition, guessing names of songs played by Miss Rust, resulted in Miss Z. White and Miss Ann Cranswick dividing the honours.

Miss Dora Wardlaw then gave a splendid exhibition of dancing the Sailor’s Hornpipe; a piano solo was very nicely played by Miss Tizard. The pretty, old-time dance, Minuet, was danced by Misses A. Cranswick, A. White, D. Hughes and N. Rust. The singing circle members sang several part songs that'‘are to be sung at the Eisteddfod. Competition results: —

Best single flower: Mrs Whiteman 1, Mrs J. Boynton 2, Mrs H. Bell 3. Multiple flower: Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs M. King 2, Mrs C. N. White 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs M. King 3. Collection of vegetables: Mrs C. N. White 1, Mrs M. King 2, Mrs F. Bell 3.
