New Minister For Knox Church
Last Night’s Induction Service Well-Attended The induction of the Rev. R. T. Dodds to the pastoral charge of Knox Church, Wliakatane, was carried out by the Bay of Plenty Presbytery last evening in the presence of a large congregation. The Moderator of Presbytery, the Rev. E. J. Melville, of Te Puke, conducted the service. Rev. J. A. L. Carter, recently inducted Maori missionary at Opotiki, preached the occasional sermon, the Rev. J. H. Starnes, of addressed the congregation, and the’ Rev. P. J. Wainwright addressed the minister. Mr Dodds brings to the work of the Church at Whakatane a wealth of experience, and in all his labours he will be most ably assisted by his wife. The Whakatane congregation counts itself fortunate in obtaining the services of a minister of Mr Dobbs’ calibre. At the weleome social which followed the induction service representative speakers voiced the feelings of the congregation, the Presbytery, and the Maori Mission Committee in their gratification of such a speedy and acceptable settlement of the vacancy. Tribute was paid to the efforts of the Interim-Modera-tor, Rev. J. H. Starnes, in his care for the congregation during that period. Mr Dodds will conduct his first service in his new charge next Sunday.
