Ship Stranded At Heads

The Northern Ssteamship Co’s motor vessel Otimai spent yesterday stranded on a sand bank inside the entrance at the Heads.

Apart from the fact that there has been no fresh in the river following the dry spell this year, thus allowing silt deposits to build up, tides this week have been exceptionally low, but are making a bit now. Monday’s level was the lowest recorded in recent months. Otimai grounded on the way in on yesterday’s tide.
