EX-WHAKATANE MAN ACTIVE IN AMBULANCE WORK IN NORTH
Rev. A. F. Attwood, until last year Minister of the Methodist Church at Whakatane, has taken with him to Kaikohe, North Auckland, his keen interest in the work of the St. John Ambulancd Association, and something of his work in that connection is revealed in the following letter to Mr E. A. Ramson, of Whakatane: “It is hard to realise that it is a year since we left Whakatane. I have certainly not seen a better place than Whakatane during that time. “How are you keeping yourself, and how is St. John Ambulance work going along? Are the fellows still keen? We have been trying to get the Brigade started here, and at last have managed it. “The Bay of Islands Hospital Board is purchasing a new Ambulance, and will have it housed at Kaikohe if we form a St. John Ambulance Brigade Division here to take charge of it. This is now under way, and our first parade is called for April 5. “Whangarei District Headquarters require a Statement of Services from you, setting out the particulars of my examinations, ambulance duties, parades attended, etc., for which I think there is a special form. Could you please let me have this?
“Ambulance duty on these roads is very different from round Whakatane. I had a 45 mile trip yesterday in our own car to take a child to the Kawakawa Hospital, but the roads nearly shake your teeth out.”
