Snake's Spectacles
The eyes of snakes are covered by a permanent horny membrance, a transparent lens through which they can see as we see through glass or mica. Birds have a sort of inner third eyelid, a winking membrane, which is repeatedly drawn across the eyeball, thus keeping the eye swept clear of dust, and at the same time moistened.
