Whakatane Branch of Red Cross Society Has Most Successful Year
All reports received at the annual meeting of the Whakatane branch of the Red Cross Society showed what a success the past year had been.
Mrs Sullivan reported that four cases of clothing had been sent to Britain through the centre. Two collections of infants' woollies and six odd tins of food had also been sent, with a parcel of stationery and tinned goods from the Girl Guides.' Mrs Winstone stated that £2OO had been sent to the Food for Britain fund by the branch this year.
Junior Red Cross members have been knitting and making toys and have sent £5 to the Food fund. They are also sending food parcels to their own school overseas.
Candidates for the Home Nursing all passed with good marks. Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs. N. Patterson, treasurer, R. Mollgaard, auditor, D. C. Stevens, editor of the Beacon, for the publicity he had given Red Cross affairs, and to J. Henry for his'assistance in the packing of the food boxes. Officers elected were: President, Mrs B. S. Barry; vice-presidents, Mesdames Sullivan and James; secretary, Mrs J. N. Lovelock. The executive comprises the president, vicepresidents, secretary and Mesdames Shapley, Armstrong, Prideaux and Winstone; treasurer, Mr N. Patterson; auditor, Mr R. Mollgaard; delegates to the Centre, Mesdames Barry and Lovelock; convener for sewing, Mrs G. Hamill.
