First Annual Meeting Of Newly Consolidated County Rod And Gun Club
The first annual general meeting of the newly consolidated Whakatane Rod and Gun Club was held in the Council Chambers recently, Mr J. D. Rivett in the chair. In the president's report it was stated that the club had over the last year caught up on a bank overdraft improved the club's assets until they now totalled £387, besides which the club paid out a total of £337 in sweeps and other prizes. The club now has one of the best grounds in the district with a new pavilion and ground improvements, a new trap house and a new automatic trap. The work carried out by the club on its grounds was praised by an Internal Affairs officer who examined them. In concluding his report the president made special reference to the great work done by the treasurer, Mr Ray Morgan, who though
not a shooter himself he had given much valuable assistance to the club on all its field days by his work in the box taking the entrance fee and paying out the prize money and in many other ways. Mr W. Howard was re-elected patron of the club in the election of officers, Mr J. D. Eivett president and Mr R. Morgan secretary-treas-urer. The old position of secretary and treasurer was filled by two men. The vice-presidents are Messrs. Davies and Hudson. The committee are Messrs. R. Ricketts, J. Tebbutt, S. Kerr, W. Mayo, A. Mitchell, W. caught up on a bank overdraft, imJones. The hon. Vet is Mr Thompson and the hon. auditor Mr H. G. Warren. The major remit to the first committee was that the Rotoma Lake be declared closed to all except those using artificial fly as bait. This remit was made on account of the heavy toll of fish being taken by trollers in the lake in the past season.
