The Lands and Survey Department has now acquired 30 acres of Mrs Reynolds' property on the Main Highway and Riverslea-Otakiri road frontage opposite the timber mill as a site for the future residential and commercial development of Edgecumbe according to advice from the Department to the County Council. This purchase has been made in accordance with the recommendations of the committee appointed by the Minister of Lands, to provide a suitable residential area as far as possible free from flooding and sited to avoid any interference with flood control protec* tion works.
Steps are now being taken to subdivide the area and make sections available for disposal.
