Presentation Afternoon At Waimana: Miss Shirley Addison Honoured
There was a large attendance of friends of Miss Shirley Addison in the Waimana Hall last Saturday afternoon to show their appreciation of her seven years’ working in the Waimana Post Office. The proceedings opened with a musical parcel, which was won by Miss B. Stansbury. Several members of the St. John Cadets sang a bracket of songs, “Down in the Valley,” “Sioux City Sue,”, “Don’t Fence Me In” and “Five Minutes More.” Mr G. Mitchell sang most delightfully “To a Miniature” and ‘The Last Rose of Summer,” and was accompanied by Mrs Potter. A greatly enjoyed elocutionary item entitled “The Philosophy of Life” was given by Mrs Reuben Looney. After a delicious home-made afternoon tea had been served, Mrs Woolfield, on behalf of the telephone subscribers and friends of Waimana and Nukuhou North, said Miss Addison had been in the Post Office for seven years, during which she had given very faithful and conscientious work, was always courteous efficient and always obliging. “Shirley will be greatly missed from the Post Office by all in the district and outside Waimana also,” said Mrs Woolfield. “Now that she is moving on to a different life, she will take with her the best wishes of all.”
At this juncture Mrs Woolfield asked Miss Addifeon to accept aj chiming clock and a cheque and wished her all the best of luck as the moments ticked by." Miss Addison thanked Mrs Woolfield and all for the pleasant afternoon and lovely gift, and offered special thanks to Mr and Mrs Mannion for their great kindnesses. As a conclusion to the evening, everyone joined in singing "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow."
