RAIN BRINGS LITTLE RELIEF FROM BOROUGH SHORTAGE OF WATER
The heavy downpour in the weekend was the first substantial rain, in this district for some time. Those who will benefit most will be the farmers, who were beginning to feel the lack of rain in their returns. Most herds have dropped down quite considerably during the dry period. There will be many in town who think now that there has been heavy rain they* will not need to conserve water, but the Borough authorities are very definite in their statement that the position is no better and will not improve until there is sufficient storage space in the reservoir which at present will hold only 24 hours’ reserve. Another factor in the shortage is the power rationing in foi’ce. Thist allows the Borough pumping system only a limited amount of electricity. Thus it is not possible to keep the reservoir full all the time nor the pumps going to maintain a constant level.
