CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SUPPORTS MOVE FOR BETTER OHOPE ROAD
A guarantee of full support in any move concerning the deplorable condition and the apparent lack of any attempt by County or Highways Board authorities to improve the Ohope-Whakatane highway was given by the Chamber of Commerce to a deputation from the Ohope Progress League last night. Mr F. Cutler, leader of the deputation, told the meeting that the Ohope residents had decided to place their case before the Chamber when they had found they had been placed at the end of the list for priority road improvements after they had been told by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, that theirs was a case that would receive prompt attention. “We feel that with our increased population, and more especially since our beach has reached the public eye, that to assist this popularity we should have a decent road in, if not a wide straight one, at least a sealed one,” Mr. Cutler persued.
‘“Another point is the dust menace at Ohope itself. We all know that our rates are very low and therefore we cannot expect a great deal, but we are prepared if necessary to have our rates raised to have this menace removed, and other necessary improvements carried out.”
