Sequel To Waioeka Gorge Accident: Damages Claim

Before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court at Opotiki recently, Edith Emily Cook, laundry proprietress, Gisborne, was awarded £123 9s and costs totalling 16 lis 6d when she' proceeded against Dr Richard N. Akel, Whakatane, for £l4B 9s, alleged to represent the cost of repairs and depreciation and the loss of use of Mrs Cook's car as a result of a collision with Dr Akel's car on the Waioeka Gorge road on Sunday, June 22, 1947. The accident occurred on a narrow stretch of. road with a dangerous drop into the Opato stream.. Plaintiff's car was extensively damaged.
