Present Building Permit System Thought Adequate If Everyone Co-operates
He felt that if everyone co-oper-ated, the present system of issuing building permits, if not altogether fool-proof, would at least prove adequate, said the Minister of Rehabilitation, Mr C. F. Skinner, at the monthly meeting of the Rehabilitation Board. The Minister's remarks arose from consideration of a report showing results of applications for industrial building permits from ex-service-men. • /
Ex-servicemen were treated uniformly when applying for industrial building permits, said Mr Skinner. He explained that some months ago a sub-committee of Cabinet had been set up to control the issue of building permits, and very few applications from ex-servicemen had been turned down in the last three months.
In some cases the applicants were asked to modify their original plans; but some of those whose applications were declined were seeking to build commercial garages.
All applications for industrial building permits came to Wellington. In the case of residential building the matter was clear-cut. Anyone at all could build up to 1150 square feet.
