Borough Power Allocation
Council Agrees To Seek An Increased Allowance In his monthly report to the Borough Council’s ordinary meeting on Monday night the electrical engineer, Mr F. W. Lysaght, brought to the notice of the Council the fact that the power allocation had been exceeded. He said if no reduction in the consumption of electricity was made by consumers serious consideration would have to be given to the further restriction of ' supplies. The Council decided to seek a larger allocation.
That, taken in conjunction with further reference, in a .letter from the Electricity Controller, to an application for the installation of a range that the Council had declined under the regulations because it was to replace existing cooking facilities, evoked considerable discussion on the power position in general. It was put forwmrd by Cr E. R. Dillicar that, but for present building and other restrictions, this town would leap ahead, and the general opinion was that the Council should do all it could by way of preparation for that expansion. Therefore it was decided, after the need had been stressed at length by the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, as well as Crs Dillicar, A. D. O’Rourke and H. G. Warren, that the Council should make the strongest possible representations to the authorities for a larger power allocation. Support from the Chamber of Commerce is to be sought, and Cr R. T. Morpeth told the Council they could rely upon the Chamber’s full co-operation in a matter so vital to the progress of the town and district.
