Dr. G. H. Maaka and family returned from their trip through the Wairarapa on Monday.

Mr and Mrs R. Goodall and family of Te Awamutu, are at present on holiday at Ohope.

Mr V. Timbs and family are spending a' fortnight’s holiday at Lake Rotoma.

Misses R. and L. Garaway are leaving for Auckland on Monday on their annual holidays.

Mrs J. Dykstra, Murupara, has returned from a visit to her- daughter in Auckland.

Mrs E. Simons returned yesterday from Wellington where she has been to meet her son, Mr R. Stanley, who has just arrived in New Zealand on the s.s. Wahine from Australia.

Miss G. M. Olliver, of Whangarei, has been appointed assistant matron of the District Hospital, Whakatane, subject to Health Department approval.

Lord Vesty (London) passed through Murupara on Sunday. He was accompanied by Messrs. H. B. Williams and S. Snushell, of Gisborne.

Mr J. Madden, Sales Manager of Marriots Stores Ltd., and Mr J. R. Mathews, Supervisor, both of Auckland, were in Whakatane on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mr G. Gartshore of the Loan and Mercantile staff, is leaving Whakatane on his annual holidays which are to be spent in an extended tour of the North Island.

Messrs. J. Hudson, C. and T. O’Rourke and K. Dines are leaving Whakatane on Monday on an extended tour of the North Island. Their first stop will be Warkworth, North Auckland.

Mr B. Norman will return to Whakatane from the New Zealand Fire Brigade Demonstration and Championships at Wanganui in the week-end. He is returning via Wellington *and the East Coast.

Guests at the Murupara Fishing Lodge include Dr. D. Jenness (Canada), Mr and Mrs Woodley (Wellington), Mr, "Mrs and Miss Rowlands (Auckland), Messrs A. Thompson, B. Foruton (Auckland), J.. C. Herbert (Auckland), H. H. Pollard (Auckland), Trevelwick (Auckland).

Mrs K. L. Caverhill, Bay of Plenty Hospital Board member whose father recently died was accorded a vote of condolence at yesterday’s meeting of the Board, which also minuted its sympathy with Mr T. A. Bridger, assistant secretary, who has also suffered bereavement recently.
