British Wool Industries Display Latest Fabrics Produced For Export

A display of the latest fabrics the British wool industry is producing for export was presented at the International Wool Secretariat this month by the National Wool Textile Export Corporation, according to news received by the New Zealand Wool Board.

With the accent on versatility, the display provided a cross-section of fabrics from each district of the wool industry in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Fabrics unfurled in the eight different sections of the display included dress-weights, women’s and men’s coatings and suitings, tweeds, doeskins and wool taffetas.

The “Pirate’s Cave” glinted with Treasure Trove the highlight of the display. It exhibited one of Britain’s newest 100 per cent, pure wool fabrics—“ Crepe Tweed.”

These fabrics can be made as light as Bozs. as dress-weights and up to 10-1 lozs. for suitings and edge-to-edge coats. Here the colour theme of the background was grey with brown • and black, grey and white and brown and white, lightened with budgreen and orchid. The walls of the cave were lined with fabrics in the sober hues of the Victorian era. These darker colours are expected to set the autumn 1948 fashions in London and New York. Amid a hilly landscape in the next section were draped tweeds ‘ from Scotland, -Northern Ireland and the West of England.

A men’s section showed men’s suitings, mainly of light-weight for tropical and sub-tropical climates and also for the U.S. market.
