PRESIDENT OF ROTARY CLUB GIVES REPORT ON N.Z. CONFERENCE
“We have obtained a broader insight into the activities of Rotary as an international 'force as a result of this conference,” said Mr H. G. Warren, president of the Whakatane Rotary Club and leader of the delegation to the 2nd annual conference of the 52nd Rotary District held in Auckland recently, when he gave his report at the Whakatane Rotary luncheon on Wednesday. He hoped that as a result of this conference the Whakatane Club’s interests would be expanded and the attendances maintained, because the Rotary Clubs were a great international power, doing great work in the fields of peace, medicine, science and education. Various speakers of note gave addresses on different subjects at the conference. Most notable contributor, in Mr Warren’s opinion, was. Dr. E. M. Blaiklock, Professor of Classics at the Auckland University. The subject of his speech was “The Significance of , History.” This speech was considered of such educational value by the conference that it decided to have it published and sent to senior members of the High Schools in the Auckland district: The Whakatane delegation was instrumental in bringing this about. In competition for the “Colty” Cup, awarded to a delegation for its attendance and distance it had to travel, Whakatane was third.
