Basic Petrol Rations Will Be Automatically Granted In Most Cases

'Basic rations of petrol will be granted automatically to all classes of users who can satisfy local oil fuel controllers that they are engaged in the type of business specified and require petrol to carry on their business.

Monthly basic rations are:— Private Motor-cars (coupons).—• Under 9|5 horse-power, six gallons; 9.5 to 14.5 horse-power, nine gallons; over 14.5 horse-power, 12 gallons. Motor Cycles (coupons (. —Three gallons. Business Cars (these cars will also receive ordinary coupons).—Manufacturers, 10; company executives, 10; chairmen of county councils, 10; farmers living more than ten miles' outside the nearest town (with a population of at least 1000), 10; photographers, 10; building contractors and allied trades, 15; union and organisation secretaries, 15; engineers, 15; architects and surveyors, 15: shipping and aircraft, 15; motor industry, 15; printers, 15; merchants, 15; salesmen and commercial travellers in towns, 20; and in country, 30.

Retail Distribution Services.— Perishable goods, 15; dealers, 20; laundries and dry cleaners, 10; doctors in town, 30; and in country, 50; 'and agents in town, 15; and in country, 20; insurance, town, 15; country, 25; clergymen in town, 15; in country, 25; members of Parliament in city, 15; and in country, 30.

Rental Cars.—Under 9.5 horsepower, 30 gallons; 9.5 to 14.5 horsepower, 40 gallons; over 14.5 horsepower, 50 gallons. Taxis and Private Hire Cars. — Single shift, 125; double shift, 200. Trucks . (“L” plates).—Farmers, 15; fruiterers, 15; motor trade, 15; builders, 30; painters,. 20; bricklayers, 20; retailers, 20; grocers, 20; butchers, 25; wood and coal distribution, 30; plumbers, 30; milk vendors, 45. “H” Plates.—Motor trade, 20; farmers. 30; retail distribution services, 35; wholesale distribution services, 35; builders, 35; manufacturers. 45; saw-milling, 655 dairy companies, 100; carriers in town, 80; and in country, 120; dealer’s cars, 20.

The Oil Fuel Controller will fix the ration for public passenger services, local body vehicles and Government vehicles. The Department of Agricuture will fix the ration for n-on motor vehicle use on farms. The Marine Department will fix the ration for fishing boats. The ration for pleasure launches and auxiliary yachts is:—Waterline length, up to and including 13ft, four gallons; over 13ft and including 25ft, eight gallons; over 25ft and including 30ft, 16 gallons; over 30ft and including 35ft, 24 gallons; over 35ft, 32 gallons; boats using outboard motors up to and including five horse-power, four gallons; over five horse-power, eight gallons. Motor garages, 10 gallons. Cases not included in the above lists will be considered on their merits.

Workers requiring petrol to enable them to travel to their work because of lack of other transport facilities should make application for licences •to the sub-district oil fuel controllers, who will arrange for these to be considered in groups and the necessary petrol made available.

In cases where a light truck is also used as well as a private motor car coupons will be issued over and above the business allocation.
