Chatella Resumes Included in the contestants for the Hinuera Handicap at Matamata was the four year old Chatella by Chatsworth—Flying Tresses. Although she has been off the course two seasons she ran a fair race. Chatella is now raced by Mr Frank Stewart of Morrinsville. Change in Owneship The Matamata hurdler, Diamond King, now races in the colours of Mr J. K. Cameron. He is a member of A. McArthur's team. Increase in Stakes The stakes for the Franklin Cup to be run on March 6 have been increased by £l5O to £I4OO. The sprint event, the Pukekohe Handicap, will be worth £ISOO. The Riding Championship A month ago Broughton and Hooton were running neck and neck in the jockey championship of the Dominion. Since then Hooton has sustained broken ribs and collarbone, while recently Broughton was suspended at Wanganui for two months for careless riding.
The Dunedin Cup Howe is to be ridden in the Dunedin Cup by C. H. Mackie, who rode him at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. Sprinting Well The Gisborne owned. Findon is at present sprinting well on the Hastings tracks, but he will not be required to carry the colours until the sting is out of the ground. For Sydney Cup ' Beau le Havre is to be shipped to Australia on March 10 in view of contesting the Sydney Cup at Easter. Visibly Improving The Australian stayer, Silver Link, now a member of the Ellis team at Riccarton, ran a good third in the Canterbury Midsummer Handicap, and is deemed to be a much improved candidate that is expected to be at the top of his galloping form by the time Dunedin Cup day comes along. 100th Anniversary The Wanganui Jockey Club is the first in the Dominion to celebrate its one hundredth anniversary. Changed Hands Reorapa, recently in training at Te Rapa, has been sold by Mr R. J. Jeffares to be R. Souther, of Upper Hutt. Plenty Of Speed The three year old filly, Citril, by Defaulter—Citoyenne, has won four events so far this season, and naturally attention has been drawn to the fact that she is'a good racing proposition. Last week the owner, Mr F. S. Roberts, of Christchurch,received an offer of 3000 guineas for her, but negotiations have not yet been finalised. An Exceptional Record . Dark Arrow a four year old by Nightly, owned in Canterbury, has competed on 15 occasions this season, and his record is eight wins, one second and two thirds. He is at present competing at the West Coast circuit fixtures, so may increase his winning score. Len Rosa Resumes
After' a respite of a few weeks Len Rosa has resumed track work at Te Aroha, and as soon as the tracks are devoid of sting, may be expected to again bring into play his galloping capability. He is one of the Dominion’s best three year olds, but has yet to play his best card. Rammed Earth House The issue of a permit to erect a dwelling of rammed earth in a suitable suburban area as a trial house, was approved by the Wellington City Council. Rammed earth houses were recently recommended by the visiting eminent English architect, Mr Clough Williams-Ellis.
