Taneatua Institute Says Farewell To Popular Member And Secretary

The February meeting of the Taneatua Women’s Institute was held in the Taneatua hall, Mrs Grey presiding. Several members of the Girl Guide Committee were present as guests. As the meeting was to take the form of a farewell to Mrs C. Moore the room had been nicely decorated with flowers. Mrs Peebles was elected to act as secretary till the end of the year in place of Mrs Moore, who is leaving soon to live in the Waikato district. Mrs Mrs, Huchinson who has been transferred from the T'e Kuiti School was welcomed. Of interest was a reading on the women of Soviet Russia. The roll call “Farmyard Noises” was very well responded to and from the variety of noises, Mrs Peebles’ effort was definitely outstanding and awarded the prize. A wall competition was won by Mrs N. Semmens and an interesting acting competition was won by Mrs Merrie. The sketch “Mary calls the Cattle Home” given by Mesdames McDonald and Gardner was very humorous. Mrs Peebles played two piano selections which were very much enjoyed, one of them “Naila” being by special request of the guest of honour. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames K. and A. Tebbutt assisted by the committee after which Mrs Grey, on behalf of the Institute members,. made a presentation of a dainty shoulder spray and a silver vase to the guest of honour. Addressing Mrs Moore Mrs Grey said she had given invaluable assistance to the Institute in every way but particularly as secretary. On behalf' of members she wished Mrs Moore'every happiness in her new home. Mrs N.. Semmens spoke on behalf of the Girl Guide Committee and the Guides. Mrs Ricketts presented Mrs Moore with a powder compact. In her reply Mrs Moore said she had enjoyed her association with the Institute and the Guides. Drama Circle Members of the Drama Circle spent a very enjoyable evening at Mrs Grey’s residence when they met to farewell Mrs C. Moore. An apology was received, from Mrs Hayward, secretary of the Drama Circle. Mrs McDonald acted as secretary. Competitions were won by Mrs Grey and Mrs McDonald. Mrs Peebles delighted those present with piano selections and humorous recitations by Mesdames Goodhew and Bennett were very amusing. A mystery parcel went to the guest of the evening. A delicious supper was served by members, after which Mrs Grey in pinning a spray to the guest said how very sorry all the members were at losing Mrs Moore and how she would be missed at the Drama Festival.
