Waimana Institute’s Monthly Meeting
The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute was held in the Waimana Hall recently. There was a good attendance, Mrs R. Looney presiding. Mrs Looney read a letter from the Federation President, Mrs Armstrong, which was of great interest to all members.
The Kelsley W.L, Rugby, England, sent a letter saying how grateful they were for food parcels sent them.
Mrs Looney was nominated as delegate to the conference to be held in Wellington in August. The roll call was “Suggestions for programmes.” Several new ideas being put forward. The election of president for the coming year resulted in the reelection of Mrs Looney, unopposed. Nominations of committee members were also received.
A most interesting and useful demonstration was given by Mrs W. Looney, Waiotahi, it was the making of wool mops. The Institute Show, which is usually held this month, has been cancelled. In a most entertaining debate entitled “That husbands should pay their wives wages,” Mrs Wylde and Mrs J. Boynton, negative, were declared the winners over Mrs Cooper and Mrs G. Mitchell, affirmative. Judges were Mrs Potter and Mrs Woolfield. *• Results of the day’s competitions were:— Oven cloth: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs Whiteman 3. j Best collection of beans: 'Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs J. Boynton 2. Best double flower: Mrs Whiteman 1, Mrs J. Boynton 2. Best single flower: Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs J. Boynton 2, Mrs Stevenson'3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs G. Mitchell 2, Mrs F. Bell 3.
