Northern Military District Commander Visits Whakatane

Infantile paralysis with its resultant restrictions, on youth gatherings has been a serious setback to cadet training this year, said Brigadier R. S. Park, Officer Commanding Northern Military district and until recently N.Z. Liaison officer and 2 N.Z.E.F. commander in the United Kingdom, in conversation with a Beacon reporter on Wednesday. He said he had hoped to be able to inspect sqhool cadets in barracks in this district at this time of the year, also that the usual refresher course for cadet officers had had to be called off. Brigadier Park, who is on a tour of inspection of Area 2, is accompanied by Captains M. G. Fowler, Area 2 Commander, B. Andrews, assistant Area Officer and 1?. J. McGregor, G. 3. They spent Wednesday in the Whakatane district and went to Opotiki yesterday. From there they return to Auckland via Rotorua. The Brigadier and Captain Fowler were guests of the Whakatane Rotary Club at its luncheon on W ednesday.
