Hard-Fought Final In Rowing Club’s Bi-Weekly Trials On Saturday
The Whakatane Rowing Club held its bi-weekyy trial fours under ideal conditions, on Saturday. Six. crews competed and produced some very keen rowing. First Heat: G. Dines, T. Reid, R. Morpeth, T. Stewart (Delahunty cox) beat L. Stewart, K. Dines, J. Turpin, J. Hudson (Reid cox) by three-quarters of a length. Second Heat: G. Henry, M. .Nicol, P. Bowering, W. Sandham (Reid cox) defeated G. Moore,' A. Atkinson, R. King, W. Stuart (Windley cox) by half a length. Semi-final: L. Stewart, K. Dines, M. Whittaker, M. Browne (Windley cox) beat G. Dines, T. Reid, R. Morpeth, T. Stewart (Delahunty cox) by three-qunarters of a length. In the final after a very stern struggle both crews crossed the line together so they went back up the river and re-rowed the race. This time L. Stewart, K. Dines, M. Whittaker, M. Browne (Delahunty cox) defeated G. Henry, M. Nicol, P. Bowering, W. Sandham (Windley cox) only by a very small margin. Regatta Crews Again After their experience at the Hamilton regatta local crews will be on the river again this week getting all possible training in for the Tauranga regatta on February 28 and there is reason to hope that they will improve on their performance at the first regatta of the season.
