Galatea Pig Club’s Ballot For High Grade Young Breeding Stock
On Mr V. H. L. Williams’s property, Galatea, the Galatea Pedigree Pig Club held its ballot last week for the fourth and fifth litters from its pedigree large white sow. Mr F. Barwell, Supervisor to the Bay of Plenty District Pig Council, was present to record all the earmarks and litter numbers. Twelve pedigree large white pigs were available for ballot, six of bacon weight and six weaners. Of the larger pigs, the three sows were drawn by Mr F. Walsh, Mr F. M. Gibbs and Mr A. V. Payne. Boars were unwanted.
Two weaners, a sow and a boar were drawn by Mr A. F. Dickson and Mr V. L. H. Williams.
The weaner pigs, Mr Barwell said, were of very high quality and had done well. The litter averaged 47.5 lbs at 8 weeks.
