Taneatua Teams Take Honours In Sunday’s Bowling At Whakatane

Visiting teams were the finalists in the tournament held on Sunday at the Whakatane Bowling Club’s greens. Section A was won outright by Lawn (Taneatua). Section B was also won outright by Green, also of Taneatua.

The final game between the two was won by Lawn’s team. Lawn required four points to win on the last head, and when skips changed ends, Lawn was lying three shots. Green missed drawing with his first, Lawn drew the fourth shot with his first bowl, which left Green with the tough proposition of drawing the shot to save the game; he played a yard short and Lawn’s team were the winners. The team was: Brophy (1), Grace (2), Torrie (3), Lawn (s). Championship Singles

With thirty entries for the club’s main event of the season, the greens were taxed nearly to the limit on Saturday morning.' Four rounds were played during the day and by evening, it was noticed that several champions of former years had been eliminated.

On Saturday the club will be entertaining Past Presidents and their wives at the greens.
