W. Teasdale Winner Of Sunday’s Motor-Cycle Trial Over 80-Mile Course

A very successful reliability trial was held by the Bay of Plenty Motor Cycle Club last Sunday. Thirteen riders started on the 80-mile course after their machines had been examined and tool kits sealed. Departing at half minute intervals competitors were put through a brake test at the Rock before taking the main road to Matata. A speed of 30 m.p.h. was to be averaged as far as the first stop—Taneatua. After reaching Matata the riders took the hill road through Onepu to Te Teko and as a good portion of this road was loose sand it provided a good riding test. At Taneatua a stop was made for lunch. The second half of the trial commenced from the Stanley track creek, where an obstacle course had been prepared. This consisted of a track down the bank, through the creek along the opposite bank, across the creek again, up the bank and back on to the road. The best rider on this section was D. Henry, 500 cc, Levis, who lost only four points. After negotiating this course the competitors continued along Stanley track averaging 15 m.p.h. through Wainui to Ohope where their arrival times were taken. A stop was made for about half an hour and then the riders set off on the last lap over to Whakatane. As each arrived, he was put through another brake test and when all were present an engine start test was made points being deducted if any bike failed to start within half a minute. Tool kits were inspected to see if any had broken their seals and then the times were worked out. Final placings are: A. Teasdaie, 250 cc, 8.5. A., 1; B. Anderson (Opotiki) 500 cc, Matchless, 2; A. Marsh 350 cc, A.J.S., 3. A cup was awarded to 1,2 and 3 as well as a cash prize of £3 10s, £2 and £1 respectively. It is hoped to arrange a social for the presentation.
