Whakatane Women’s Team Makes Splendid Showing At Mount Surf Carnival

After only three weeks practice, the Whakatane Surf Life Saving Club’s women’s team carried off the second places in the march past championship and the Women’s Sixman R. and R. at the second annual surf carnival at Mount Maunganui on Sunday. Judges said they considered the Whakatane women’s team up to the Nelson Shield standard. The men’s teams did not have much success, but the trip did them all good by showing the way a crack surf team should be trained. Better results are expected at future carnivals.

Teams from as far north as Piha and as far south as Wainui were present and all gave good displays of precision and team work. The Auckland team, Eastern United, won most of the men’s eevnts. Results:— March Past Championship: Milford Girls 1, Whakatane Girls 2, Mount Girls 3. Men’s March Past: Eastern United 1, Waihi 2, Kare Kare 3. Pennant Relay: Mount 1. Beltman’s Championship: Eastern United 1, Kare Kare 2. Surf Ski Rescue: Piha 1, Waihi 2. Four-man Alarm: Eastern United 1, Milford 2, Mount 3. Women’s R. and R. Milford 1, Whakatane 2, Mount 3. Six-man R. and R.: Eastern United 1, Waihi 2, Mount 3.
