Whakatane Tennis Team Makes Tauranga Work Hard
The Whakatane Tennis players who visited Tauranga last weekend for the Lees Cup challenge considered they had a weak team, hut the day proved Tauranga not as strong as expected and were fully extended to retain the trophy. Details:— Men’s Singles: P. Aitkenhead'beat P. Bryers 6-5, 3-6, 6-2; K. Dyer beat I. Wylds 6-2, 5-6, 6-2; P. Johnston lost to N. Moore 6-1, 6-1; R. Dickison lost to G. Gordon 6-3, 6-3; A. Davidson lost to C. Wylds 6-3, 6-3; J. Nicholls beat R. House 6-1, 6-0. Women’s Singles: Miss L. Kirk bqat Miss M. Howat 6-4, 6-4, Miss P. Johnson lost to Miss M. Hall 6-4, 6-0; Miss E. Galbally beat Mrs Mole 6-0, 6-0; Miss Pat Johnson lost to Mrs Hall 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Men’s Doubles: Aitkenhead and Dyer beat Bryers and Wylds 6-3, 6-5; Johnston and Nicholls lost to Moore and Gordon 2-6, 6-3, 6-4; Dickison and Davidson beat Wylds and House 6-5, 6-5. Women’s Doubles: Misses Kirk and Galbally beat Misses Howat and Hall 4-6, 6-0, 6-4; Misses P. and P. Johnson beat Mesdames Mole and Hall 6-5, 1-6. 6-4.
