Local Body Members Enjoy Picnic As Guests Of Harbour Board

Representatives of various local bodies, at the invitation of the Whakatane Harbour Board, went on a picnic trip to Whale Island on Tuesday. At the Island some of the party went ashore while the others continued to the fishing grounds, returning at mid-day for a picnic lunch, after which they returned to their fishing. The whole party met ashore at 5 o’clock for tea. Mr J. L. Burnett, Chairman of the Whakatane County Council, thanked the Harbour Board for the invitation extended the local bodies to join the picinc. I Mr W. R. Boon, Chairman of the Harbour Board, thanked all for attending. The prize for the first edible fish caught was awarded to Mr Burnett. Mr A. F. McGougan caught the biggest variety of fish, but he had a little difficulty with his line, which was always tangling with the other lines, probably on account of the peculiar type of sinker used.
