Is American Red-Baiting Leading World To War?
“It has become fashionable to throw bricks at our former ally, Russia, and it is growing even more fashionable as more and more people forget that in this atomic age we either live at peace—or do not live at all. In this fashion America leads the world, and the word “Communism” has become a bogey to “be produced on the slightest sign of liberalism or progressive thought,” writes Peter Kin in “Kiwi”’ official organ of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association.
“If America does indeed lead the world to another war we will be involved whether we like it or not. True there is little we can do, but we can at least ward off intolerance here. We can lend a sense of balance to our views by remembering that whilst there certainly is a great deal to be said against Russia, there is equally certainly as much which could be said, but is not, on her behalf. We can remember, too, that America is far from blameless, and we might justifiably wonder if there is not some solid ground for the Russian suspicions which are seemingly threatening the success of United Nations.”
