Denne-Rolland Wedding
Bride In Satin Broche: Maids In Pastel Pink Last Saturday Knox Presbyterian Church, Whakatane, was the scene of a pretty wedding, when Tari Elizabeth, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs A. F. Rolland, of Ruatoki, Taneatua, was married to Clement Fergusson, son of the late Mr and Mrs Denne, Wanganui, Rev. H. M. Bell officiating.
The church had been tastefully decorated with shasta daisies, shades of pink and blue hydrangeas, gladioli and delphiniums, by friends of the bride.
Wedding music was played by Mr Anderson, of Awakeri. The bride, who entered the church with her father, looked most charming in a bridal gown of offwhite satin broche, cut on slimming lines. The bodice was fitting and finished with a Peter Pan collar. Full length bishop sleeves were finished with tiny buttons on the back from wrist to elbow. The full skirt, fell away to a graceful long train and the lovely embroidered tulle veil formed a second train held in place by a coronet of orange blossom buds. Her bridal shower bouquet was of carnations, gladioli* rose buds and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids were Miss Dawn Rolland, sister of the bride, and Miss Esme Denne, Wanganui, sister of the bridegroom. They wore pastel pink taffeta and figured marquisette full length frocks. The bodices were gathered in the’ front, withe sweetheart necklines, and tiny pink buttons finished the backs. Pink lace mittens were worn with dainty shoulder length pink veils held in place by coronets of pinfcT'and blue flowers. Pearl bracelets and necklaces were the only jewellery. The Shower bouquets were of shades of * pink and blue gladioli, agapanthus, carnations, roses and fern.
The bridegroom was attended by Mr John Strauchan, Wanganui, as best man, and Mr Reg Douglas, Mercer, as groomsman. ", ! While the register was being signed, Mr Pinfold sang “I’ll Walk Beside You.” King Street Reception The reception was held in the King Street Hall, where about 150 guests were- received by Mr and Mrs Rolland. Mrs Rolland chose a smart black frock of silk Parma, the long sleeves being of embroided georgette, a model black straw hat and black accessories. She carried a posy of red carnations, roses and fern. The hall had been decorated with pink and blue flowers and pink carnations and roses were* used on the tables. A lovely floral wedding bell was suspended over, the bridal couple at the bridal table. While the' beautiful three-tiered wedding cake was being cut, the, best man read telegrams, all conveying best wishes. The toastmaster was Mr Clark, and the usual toast list was honoured, interspersed with vocal items. The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a beautiful hand-cut crystal trinket box. s
The newly-weds left later for a honeymoon to be spent in the South Island, mainly the Sound district. The bride chose a smart summerweight wool costume of duck-egg blue, a tiny black hat worn with a short black veil and a plastic handbag. Mr and Mrs Denne will make their future home in Wanganui.
