“Heritage” Plays Santa Claus Over Wide Area
Finances of Heritage (Hamilton) have shown a great improvement since the end of the financial year on September 30, 1947, mainly through a grant of £250 from Heritage (Auckland) -to enable the extension of work for the country children. Other donations acknowledged total £25/10/-. Since the annual meeting over 20 new members have been enrolled. Mr McCoskrie has continued his good work in delivering a present to each Hamilton child on their respective birthdays and from the beginning of 1948 each country child will receive a suitable book by post on the birthday date. A supply of birthday cards for use throughout the year is being printed. About the middle of December, 1947, a Christmas present in the form of a suitable book was posted out to each country child and the presents for the Hamilton children were delivered by members of the Visiting Committee and the Executive during Xmas week. Attractive Xmas «ards were obtained and printed with a greeting from Heritage. Many letters of thanks and appreciation for the gifts have been received from the children and from the mothers. The visiting of homes has been continued and during the quarter the secretary has visited 17 families in Hamilton covering 23 children; and 23 families in the county in 15 different towns covering 37 children. This visiting entailed travelling 443 miles by car —no charge being made against the funds. Quite a number of requests for advice and assistance have been received and action taken in each case.
