Ohope Progress League Has Ambitious Plans For Future Of Resort
Though the Ohope Progress League has no actual authority its suggestions to the County Council have resulted in many new schemes being pushed ahead at the beach, an executive member told the Beacon yesterday. Its hand may be discerned in the formation of footpaths, the clearing of roadways to the beach and above all the assistance in reviving of the Surf Club, he claimed.
Some of the League’s future plans are the realigning of the road through the settlement, the construction of a hall and a sports area. Beautifying Ohope is also one of the major aims.
Though the League had to cancel its Anniversary Day sports meeting, it hopes to be able to recover some of the losses at the Anniversary Day dance to be held this month, for which preliminary arrangements are now in train.
Profits from ‘this danae, as is the case with all revenue the League collects, will be used for the sole purpose of building and boosting Ohope.
