Price Reductions
Sales Tax Off Some Lines Of Foodstuffs Due to the removal of the 20 per cent sales tax from certain food lines another list of price reductions was published by the Price Tribunal last Friday and has become effective. In the main the lines concerned are more or less luxuries or items that do not figure at all prominently on the average table. Here is the list (old prices in parentheses):— Baking Powdei’, lib tins 2/4 (2/6), Cocoa 41b tins l/4|d (l/71d), lib 2/7-|d (3/lid), Custard Powder l/4£d (l/6sd), Coffee Essence 10/£d (2/1), Meat Pastes lOd (1/-), Soups 1/2 (1/4), Jams—down 2d lb all grades, Macaroni 10-j£-d (Hid), Cream O’ Tartar 4/5 (5/6), Mustard Rb 2/1 (2/5), Pickles 2/1 (2/7), Sauces, large, reduced (4d) a bottle, small reduced (2d) a bottle, Tongue and Veal 3/(3/7), Blanc Mange Powder 1/6 (1/8).
