FARMING COURSES FOR EX-SERVICEMEN
The intention to establish two short farming courses for ex-service-men early next year was conveyed to the Rehabilitation Council at its quarterly meeting in Wellington by Mr J. J. Granville, chairman of the Farming Sub-committee of the Rehabilitation Board. One of the ■courses would be in Hamilton and the other in Gore, which would mean one for each Island. Both courses would probably commence in April next. Apart from general instruction in agricultural and farming methods, ex-servicemen attending these courses would be shown over the best farms in the area with the hope that they would on their own farms ■emulate the farming methods used. It was hoped, said Mr Granville, that the courses would achieve a two-fold purpose, first to raise agricultural standards in New Zealand, and secondly to arouse greater interest in the land settlement side of rehabilitation among urban dwellers, and simultaneously interest them more greatly, in New Zealand’s basic industry.
If the two courses in Hamilton and Gore proved successful similar courses in other centres might be held.
