United Mission On Okinawa

The Foreign Missions Conference of North America has decided to establish a United Protestant Mission on Okinawa Island. This is a major step towards fulfilling the desire of many Christians both in the U.S. and overseas to conduct Protestant foreign mission activities on an interdenominational basis. The project was first proposed by a small group of native Christians on Okinawa Island to American chaplains during the war. The present governor of Okinawa, Shikiyn Koshin, as well as other leading Okinawans, have written that “there is a religious neutrality and apathy here proboniy vinceur'llcd.”
