Whakatane Squadron Of A.T.C. Winners Of Kingsford-Smith Cup
No. 35 Squadron, the Whakatane unit of the Air Training Corps, has won the Sir Charles Kingford-Smith Cup for general efficiency, in a competition that embraces the whole of the Northern Wing, comprising units from Whangarei to Palmerston North. Official notification of the award was received yesterday by the Officer Commanding the Squadron, Flying Officer S. Whitworth. The letter from the Northern Wing H.Q. says, “The consistent efficiency of this Squadron reflects with credit to a very large extent the work and interest that has been maintained by its officers since the cessation of hostilities. The competition was keen, with several Squadrons running the winners very close, and it is with great satisfaction this Headquarters commends and congratulates No. 35 Squadron, Whakatane, on their effort.”
